In The Spotlight – Velvet & Rose
Find out more about this lovely boutique…!
Velvet & Rose came into fruition years after having a small, nagging idea about opening up a small shop. I used to be a scientist in a FMCG company but then an opportunity arose in my career to do something different. I worked with many world famous brands in my previous role which gave me a great understanding about what consumers love! That coupled with a little bit of in store retail experience over the years gave me the push to open up my own boutique.
The store is for women who like a bit of ‘style & glamour’! I love it when customers leave looking and feeling great. When someone buys an outfit from Velvet & Rose it’s the best feeling to see how happy they are that they have found something special to wear.
Good quality clothing at good prices is also paramount. You can buy cheaper clothes from one of the many larger high street stores but they’re likely to wear out more quickly. It’s important to me that the clothing I sell will last. We all need to be considering the environment and sustainability so I’m being really careful about what I select on buying trips. Even my teenage children are thinking about where they buy their clothes from!
Stylish, Classic, Different, Glamorous, Timeless
I house a few big brands such as Mos Mosh mainly for their jeans, Saint Tropez for across the board variety, Hartwell for shirts, Anna Montana for every day trousers, Powder & Katie Loxton for accessories, Cadenza Italy for special seasonal pieces and many other small yet great brands!
The one thing their clothing all needs to have in common is good quality fabrics. The materials they use need to look and feel good on the skin. The Velvet & Rose name came from something beautiful & soft and that is how I like our products to be.
As mentioned before, sustainability is also very important. Many of the brands I stock are now part of the Better Cotton Initiative & use recycled fabrics.
I’d say mid priced. There are trousers from £39 to £119, dresses from £39 to £90 and tops from £29. You don’t need to spend a lot of money to get something beautiful!
I’d say V & R is more agile. I can easily buy in something which is on trend.
More importantly, the biggest difference is regarding the unique, personal service I provide. So many times you walk into the bigger stores and there is no one to help you, even in the changing rooms when you would like to try another size! I love to have a chat with my customers or make them a cuppa. They become friends and it makes it all so much more worthwhile for us both.
A lot of people walk by the boutique thinking that it must be really expensive but it is not. There is something for everyone at Velvet & Rose.
I think people also worry that they won’t be left alone to browse. However, they can rest assured that I like to give customers all the time they need and will only step in to help if required. Nobody wants to be pounced on when they enter a shop!
Covid has certainly not helped! Unfortunately, now more than ever people are shopping online. Although I love seeing my regular clients and meeting new customers face to face, I do have an online store if you can’t get out to visit.
Very well considering. I quarantine any tried on clothing and sanitise the changing rooms in between customers. I also ask people to wear a mask and use hand sanitiser upon entry.
Finally I just wanted to say thank you for supporting local shops. We need it right now. I look forward to welcoming our existing and new customers.
